Alison Byrne Fields is the second great example I have found while doing my recent soul searching about whether it is better to write for love or write for money. The first was Laura Munson, who I have blogged about too many times already!
I like Alison's story even better. Alison wasn't trying to gain fame or fortune when she posted a message in her blog about a long ago pen-pal relationship that she had with director John Hughes. She wasn't even trying to be discovered.
She wrote about her relationship with Hughes on her blog only as a way of sorting out her emotions. "I did it just for me, but I knew a few friends would see it too," Byrne Field said.
The post, however, brought 350,000 visitors to her blog AND put her in the pages of Time magazine.
All I can say is, WOW! What an incredible reminder to us all that if we follow our hearts, there is no telling WHERE they might lead us.
